On March 17–18, 2026, suspicious drone activity was detected around a prison facility in Macapá, Amapá, Brazil. Prison police later discovered a concealed support site in a nearby wooded area and seized a drone, remote controller, spare batteries, mobile phones, smartwatches, drugs, SIM cards, and other related items. According to the official report, this was already the fifth drone seized in the area within approximately three months.
Drones can bypass traditional physical security measures such as perimeter walls and barbed-wire fences, creating new low-altitude security risks for prisons by enabling the delivery of contraband and other prohibited items. As a result, counter-drone systems are becoming an increasingly important part of modern prison security infrastructure.
